Today, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the World Wide Fund for Nature jointly released the "Global Coastal Ecosystem Status Report", which is an important result of the first systematic assessment of the status of coastal ecosystems globally. The report shows that the distribution of 13 major coastal ecosystems worldwide exhibits significant zonal characteristics: tropical ecological zones distribute over 60% of global estuaries and muddy shorelines, 97% of mangroves, 88% of seagrass beds, and 99% of coral reefs, while temperate ecological zones distribute nearly 50% of rocky and sandy shorelines, 69% of coastal salt marshes, as well as most kelp forests and mollusk reefs, with rocky reefs, sandy continental shelves, and muddy continental shelves in the intertidal zone present in both tropical and temperate ecological zones.
