Shanghai Changning District explores the "Silicon Alley" model to promote deep integration of urban renewal and technological innovation.
Reporters learned at a news conference in Shanghai on September 23 that Shanghai Changning is building the "Shanghai Silicon Alley" scientific and technological innovation street with high standards. Currently, it has gathered nearly 900 innovative enterprises and cultivated a number of national-level and city-level specialized and new enterprises such as Heihu Technology and Xijing Technology. Yang Jian'an, director of the Science and Technology Commission of Changning District, Shanghai, said that Changning District is facing the challenge of spatial resource constraints in the central urban area, and the "Silicon Alley" model is the key to breaking through, promoting the deep integration of urban renewal and technological innovation. Changning District adopts an "embedded" renewal approach, renovating existing carriers, extending streets into alleys, connecting them into clusters, injecting scientific and technological innovation functions, and launching new micro-intelligent valleys, new quadrants, and other series of new spaces. It has nurtured an innovative ecosystem where "left and right neighbors are supply and demand, and going up and down stairs is upstream and downstream", creating a new type of street block with a mix of vibrancy and technology. The investment promotion of Silicon Alley has formed a good situation where industry and scientific and technological innovation are equally important.
