Ministry of Education: Historic breakthrough in degree granting by removing the restriction of "thesis-only"

This morning, the State Council Information Office held a press conference on the high-quality completion of the "14th Five-Year Plan" series. Minister of Education, Huai Jinpeng, introduced that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, new breakthroughs have been made in deepening comprehensive education reform. In terms of basic education, driven by the revitalization of county-level schools, the resource allocation method focused on admission to higher education has changed. In coordination with the reform of the high school entrance examination, efforts have been made to reduce competition and anxiety, and comprehensive reforms to the college entrance examination have been fully implemented nationwide. In terms of higher education, based on the Degree Law, in the training program for outstanding engineers, graduate students can apply for degrees based on innovative achievements such as patents, product design, and program design, breaking the historical restriction of degree awarding based solely on dissertations; providing long-term stable support to young teachers in universities has become a reality, nurturing the backbone of science and technology for the next ten years.
