Today, the office of the Food and Drug Safety Committee of Zunyi City, Guizhou Province reported a suspected food poisoning incident in Xishui, Guizhou. The full report is as follows: At 21:30 on the evening of September 17, the Xishui County Government received a report from the County Health Bureau that patients in the Xishui County People's Hospital reported symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea after eating "sandwich" pastries in recent days. After organizing investigations by health, disease control, market supervision, public security, and other departments, it was found that the "sandwich" pastries eaten by the patients were produced by Maikemeijiale Food Factory in Xishui County. From September 15 to 17, the products were sold in 8 self-operated stores in the county, with a total of 142 sales and 181 products sold to 137 people. A total of 187 people consumed the pastries. On the evening of September 17, the Zunyi Municipal Committee and Municipal Government promptly set up a task force to carry out medical treatment and investigation work, opened a green channel for medical treatment in hospitals, and organized a joint medical expert group from the city and county to diagnose and treat patients who had recently eaten "sandwich" pastries. They also proactively contacted people who purchased and consumed the three batches of "sandwich" pastries to undergo examination, diagnosis, and treatment at medical institutions. As of 5:00 pm on September 21, 136 people were under hospital observation and treatment. The patients' symptoms were fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, and their condition was stable. Through investigations by provincial, municipal, and county disease control experts and laboratory testing, it was determined that the patients' illnesses were caused by Salmonella contamination in the "sandwich" pastries. The market supervision department sealed and seized the production raw materials and remaining products on the evening of September 17, collected samples for testing, and ordered the implicated food factory and 8 self-operated stores to cease production and operation. The market supervision, health, public security, and other departments are conducting a legal investigation into the incident, and will handle the implicated companies and individuals strictly in accordance with the results of the investigation.
