Nearly a hundred types of rare disease drugs have been included in the medical insurance list, and the rare disease diagnosis and treatment cooperation network covers 31 provinces.
On September 20th, it was reported at the 2025 China Rare Disease Conference that the collaboration network of rare disease diagnosis and treatment hospitals in China has covered 31 provinces, with approximately 100 rare disease drugs included in the basic medical insurance catalog. "About 100 rare disease drugs have been included in the medical insurance catalog, covering 42 rare disease categories," said Huang Xinyu, director of the Medical Services Management Department of the National Medical Insurance Administration. China has established a triple guarantee system based on basic medical insurance, major illness insurance, and medical assistance, which is the largest medical insurance network in the world. In 2024, medical insurance funds for rare disease drugs reached 8.6 billion yuan. Multiple rare disease drugs are included in outpatient slow-onset disease protection in various regions, with the same reimbursement ratio as inpatient care. China has issued two batches of rare disease catalogs, including 207 rare diseases. (Beijing Daily)
