The EU has upgraded its sanctions on Russian energy, targeting over 560 shadow oil tankers.
The European Union plans to increase pressure on Russia to obtain oil dollars, and its next round of sanctions against Russia will target multiple key sectors of the global oil industry. As of now, international oil prices have not shown significant fluctuations. Sanctions in the past targeting Russia's oil trade have often had limited impact on Russia's oil supply. Currently, the EU has not disclosed the draft documents related to sanctions, and the details of which assets or entities in third countries will be included in the sanction list are still pending complete disclosure. Von der Leyen also stated that Russian energy giants Rosneft and Gazprom will face a "comprehensive trading ban," and other companies will also face asset freezes. In addition, the EU will add sanctions on 118 vessels belonging to the "shadow tanker fleet," bringing the total number of shadow tankers sanctioned by the EU to over 560.
