On September 19, Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu stated at a press conference of the State Council Information Office that "Building a Beautiful China" is not just a slogan but a reputation project. It must adhere to seeking truth from facts, adapting to local conditions, firmly opposing all forms of formalism, and avoiding superficial achievements and hierarchical comparisons. The focus should be on tangible improvements in ecological environment quality, so that the people can truly feel the actual achievements of building a beautiful China. The Ministry of Ecology and Environment will make efforts in four aspects around the idea of "Building a Beautiful China". Firstly, it will focus on solving regional and watershed ecological environmental problems to shape unique and colorful building blocks of beautiful China. Secondly, all environmental elements will be fully addressed to fight for blue skies, clean water, and pure land at higher standards, strengthen the management of solid waste and new pollutants, enhance ecological system protection and restoration, and achieve comprehensive improvement in the ecological environment. Thirdly, there will be a complete transformation in development mode, with the aim of achieving peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality, promoting the formation and development of green productivity. Lastly, governance capabilities will be enhanced with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment addressing the shortcomings in environmental infrastructure and governance capabilities.
