The Trump administration is seeking to accelerate the development of power plants, transmission lines, and other energy projects to help meet the increasing electricity demand from artificial intelligence and manufacturing industries. The U.S. Department of Energy said on Thursday that with the expected growth in energy demand exceeding the capacity of the existing grid, it is looking to leverage its technological expertise and billions of dollars in financial support. The agency is asking the National Energy Office, utility companies, and other institutions to help in identifying large-scale power and grid projects. At the same time, the agency warned that in the event of rapid growth in electricity demand, there could be blackouts if coal and natural gas power plants continue to shut down. The Trump administration is also actively taking steps to prevent solar and wind energy projects in federal terrestrial and aquatic areas.
