Panasonic's goal is to develop a new high-capacity battery in about two years, which may extend the driving range of electric vehicles, marking a breakthrough for Tesla suppliers. The Japanese company is working on eliminating the anode in the manufacturing stage of batteries and improving energy density through technology. The company said that by the end of 2027, its battery capacity may reach a "world-leading level." Panasonic stated that if this goal is achieved, the driving range of Tesla's most affordable sports utility vehicle, the Model Y, could increase by nearly 90 miles based on current battery pack sizes. Additionally, Panasonic can utilize this technology to manufacture lighter and potentially cheaper batteries by maintaining the existing driving range and reducing the battery pack size. Before Masahiro Watanabe, the technical director of Panasonic Energy Company, a subsidiary of the Panasonic group, gave a speech on Thursday, a senior executive of the company introduced the anode-free technology to journalists. Many battery manufacturers around the world are also researching this technology.
