The Tibet-Guangdong DC project has started construction.
On September 16, the mobilization meeting for the construction of the Southeast Tibet to Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area 800 kV Ultra-high Voltage Direct Current Transmission Project was held simultaneously through video conference in Guangdong, Tibet, Yunnan, and Guangxi provinces. Huang Kunming, Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, Wang Junzheng, Party Secretary of the Tibet Autonomous Region, Wang Weizhong, Governor of Guangdong Province, Gama Zedeng, Chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region, as well as officials from Guangxi, Yunnan, State Grid, and Southern Power Grid attended the meeting and jointly launched the project construction. The Tibet-Guangdong DC project has a total length of 2681 kilometers, with a total investment of 53.2 billion yuan, spanning the provinces of Tibet, Yunnan, Guangxi, and Guangdong. It is a major project that connects the Southern Power Grid and the State Grid for long-distance power transmission, and is currently the world's strongest, most technologically advanced, and largest flexible DC power transmission project. After the completion of the project, the annual power transmission capacity will reach 43 billion kilowatt-hours, equivalent to reducing coal consumption by about 12 million tons and carbon dioxide emissions by about 33 million tons.
