The US and India resume trade negotiations, both sides describe the talks as "positive".
10 m ago
The United States and India said their trade negotiators held "positive" talks in New Delhi on Tuesday. Both sides are seeking to ease tensions after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed 50% tariffs on India last month. After a day-long meeting, the Indian government said in a statement that the two countries agreed to "intensify efforts" to reach a trade deal. The statement said the discussions were "positive and forward-looking, covering various aspects of the trade agreement." The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi said in another statement that U.S. Assistant Trade Representative Brendan Lynch had a "positive meeting" with India's Chief Negotiator Rajesh Agrawal to discuss the future steps of bilateral trade negotiations. Following Trump's decision to impose the highest tariffs in Asia on India and to punish its trade barriers and oil purchases from Russia, the two countries are seeking to resolve their differences. Another team, composed of U.S. defense officials and Boeing executives, will arrive in India this week to negotiate the sale of maritime surveillance aircraft worth around $4 billion.
