Fiam Naomi Mata'afa Schmidt, the leader of the Fa'atuatua i le Atua Samoa Ua Tasi (FAST) party, was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Samoa for a five-year term on the 16th. The Samoan Parliament held its first meeting after the general elections and approved the nomination of Fiam by the FAST party, which holds a majority of seats in parliament, as the new Prime Minister of the country. Fiam was sworn in as Prime Minister in front of the country's Head of State, Tuimaleali'ifano Va'aleto'a Sualauvi II.
