OpenAI launches brand-new GPT-5 model for Codex programming agents.

Codex is a solution launched by OpenAI for AI coding agents such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code, which has received a major update today. The core of this update is GPT-5-Codex, a version of OpenAI's latest GPT-5 model optimized specifically for software engineering agents. The new model itself is worth paying attention to, and the team has also added a series of new features to Codex. These features include: a rebuilt Codex CLI; new IDE extensions that can integrate Codex into tools such as VS Code, Cursor, and other VS Code branches; GitHub integration for code reviews; and workflow updates for the web version of Codex. Users of OpenAI ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Edu, and Enterprise plans can access Codex, with usage limits adjusted based on the user's subscribed plan. OpenAI explicitly states that Plus, Edu, and Business plans will cover "a few focused programming courses each week," while Pro plan users can enjoy "full weeks of work covering multiple projects."
