Tyson Foods plans to remove high fructose corn syrup from its products by the end of the year.
Tyson Foods announced plans to remove corn syrup and other ingredients from its products by the end of this year, in response to calls from the Trump administration to reform the American food supply system. The meat producer, based in Springdale, Arkansas, said in a statement released on Monday that it aims to stop using high fructose corn syrup, three chlorine sugars, butylated hydroxyanisole / butylated hydroxytoluene, and titanium dioxide in the production process of products under brands such as Tyson, Jimmy Dean, and Hillshire Farm. This is the latest case of American food companies adjusting product formulas in response to the Trump administration's health agenda. The so-called "Let America Be Healthy Committee," led by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy II, attributes the increase in chronic disease rates in part to certain ingredients and chemicals in the food supply. The committee specifically points out processed sugars like high fructose corn syrup and issues with "ultra-processed grains," linking these ingredients to health problems such as type 2 diabetes and childhood obesity.
