The Xinhua Daily Telegraph published a commentary titled "Algorithm Transparency is not an Excuse to Avoid Responsibility." Recently, Meituan set up an algorithm transparency zone, Ele.me conducted algorithm disclosure and thematic research at a forum, and JD promised to build a simple and transparent subsidy mechanism. This to some extent provides a window for all parties to understand the operation logic of the platform and helps to break information barriers. The Xinhua Daily Telegraph points out that it must be recognized that the purpose of algorithm transparency is to promote the healthy development of the industry, rather than becoming a shield for companies to shift operational costs and avoid social responsibility. Promoting algorithms to be positive and good should not just stop at disclosing rules, it is crucial to ensure the rules themselves are fair and reasonable. Platforms have a responsibility to establish a more open and diverse governance mechanism, using algorithm transparency to promote algorithm governance, allowing merchants, delivery drivers, and consumers to effectively express their demands, optimize their experiences, and help formulate more rational, just, and humane algorithms to achieve a win-win situation for all parties. Algorithm transparency is not the end goal, but should help platforms build a more fair and sustainable industry ecosystem. Only in this way can the platform economy make a greater contribution to high-quality development.
