Ministry of Foreign Affairs refutes the misinterpretation of the American Institute in Taiwan: The Taiwan status issue was completely resolved 80 years ago.
On September 15, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian chaired a regular press conference. A statement from the American Institute in Taiwan stated that the Chinese mainland deliberately distorted documents from the World War II era, including the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation, and the San Francisco Peace Treaty, to support its actions against Taiwan. These documents are not sufficient to determine Taiwan's final political status. Lin Jian stated that the fallacies and distortions of relevant institutions are misleading and confusing, and China strongly opposes them. The return of Taiwan to China is an important part of the achievements of the victory in World War II and the post-war international order. Documents such as the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation, and the Japanese Instrument of Surrender clearly confirm China's sovereignty over Taiwan. The status of Taiwan was completely resolved at the end of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in 1945. The so-called "San Francisco Peace Treaty" is an illegal and invalid document issued by the United States after World War II, in which some countries were gathered to make peace with Japan while excluding the People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union.
