The government of Venezuela confirmed on September 13th that a US destroyer illegally intercepted a Venezuelan fishing boat conducting normal fishing operations in the exclusive economic zone of Venezuela on the 12th, and detained the boat for up to 8 hours. Following the incident, leaders and organizations from various Latin American countries condemned the provocative actions of the United States. On the 14th local time, Cuban President Diaz-Canel stated on social media that Latin America and the Caribbean are peaceful regions, and the illegal detention by the United States violates international law and is a cowardly and dangerous provocation. Bolivian President Arce issued a statement on social media, condemning the new round of provocations by the US government with Venezuela, calling the illegal detention an interference in internal affairs and a violation of international law. The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) issued a statement strongly condemning the illegal detention by the United States as reckless and excessive aggression.
