On the afternoon of September 3rd, 8 migrant workers from Sichuan flew to Cambodia with the purpose of "doing hotel renovations in Phnom Penh". However, two days later, only 3 people managed to escape and return, while the other 5 are currently missing. A man who managed to escape indicated that upon their arrival at Phnom Penh airport at around 9pm on September 3rd, the "project leader" in Phnom Penh picked them up and took them to Sihanoukville, where they were then controlled by someone. Inside a house in a garden area, the 3 individuals were beaten because they were unable to type on the computer or phone, and were eventually "returned" and let go. The above mentioned man and the family members of the missing individuals revealed that all 8 of them were male. In early August, they saw a job recruitment advertisement for "hotel renovation in Phnom Penh" on a WeChat work group and traveled together on a flight to Cambodia. The family members of 2 of the missing individuals received messages asking them to prepare 250,000 RMB in cash. The Da Ying County Public Security Bureau stated that they have received reports from the family members of the missing persons, and the police have now opened a case and are actively investigating the matter.
