On September 11, the Sichuan Investigation Team of the National Bureau of Statistics released data showing that in August, the month-on-month consumer price index in Sichuan changed from a 0.4% increase last month to a 0.1% decrease; a decrease of 0.9% year-on-year, an increase of 0.5 percentage points from the previous month. The average CPI from January to August decreased by 0.3% compared to the same period last year. The person in charge of the Consumer Price Investigation Department of the Sichuan Investigation Team of the National Bureau of Statistics stated that the decline in the CPI was mainly affected by three factors: first, as the peak season for summer travel gradually came to an end, air ticket prices fell significantly, with a month-on-month decrease of 11.9% in August; second, a decrease in fuel prices; and third, seasonal discounts on some clothing. The year-on-year decline in the CPI was mainly affected by the decrease in prices of pork, fresh vegetables, and gasoline. Specifically, in August, pork prices decreased by 0.4% month-on-month and 20.1% year-on-year. Due to the concentration of some second-stage fattening pigs being slaughtered in August, coupled with pork consumption still in the off-season, pork prices weakened again month-on-month. In August last year, pork prices increased by 19.1% year-on-year, with a high base, leading to a larger year-on-year decrease this year. Fresh vegetable prices rose by 3.4% month-on-month and decreased by 17.2% year-on-year, while fresh fruit prices decreased by 3.7% month-on-month and 4.6% year-on-year.
