Uber sued by the US Department of Justice for discriminating against disabled passengers
The US Department of Justice sues Uber, accusing the company of discriminating against disabled individuals and violating federal law. The civil rights division of the department filed a lawsuit on Thursday in a northern California federal court, alleging that Uber drivers frequently refuse to provide accommodations for passengers with service animals or collapsible wheelchairs. Uber has faced multiple lawsuits from passengers for allegedly violating the Americans with Disabilities Act. In 2021, Uber reached a settlement with the US Department of Justice, agreeing to pay over $2 million to tens of thousands of passengers and adjust its policies, after being accused of charging discriminatory fees based on disabilities.
