The Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries released a joint statement expressing serious concerns about the recent escalation of the situation in the region.
The rotating presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) Colombian President Petro announced in a statement on the 4th that a joint statement by some member countries expressed serious concerns about recent foreign military deployments in the region. The statement reiterated that the Latin American and Caribbean region has long been declared a "zone of peace," with countries committed to prohibiting the use of force or threats to resolve disputes, advocating for peaceful dialogue, promoting multilateral cooperation, respecting national sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs, and upholding the right to self-determination of all peoples. The statement received support from 21 countries including Brazil, Cuba, and Mexico.
