In the second quarter of this year, Australia's current account has been in deficit for the 9th consecutive quarter.
Data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on September 2 showed that, after adjusting for seasonal factors, the current price-based estimate of Australia's current account deficit in the second quarter of 2025 was around 13.654 billion Australian dollars. This marks the ninth consecutive quarter of current account deficits for Australia. Upon recalibration, the current account deficit in the first quarter was approximately 14.092 billion Australian dollars. The deficit in the second quarter decreased compared to the first quarter, and was lower than the market's previous expectation of 15.1 billion Australian dollars.
