"Regulations on Promoting Innovation and Development of the Synthetic Biology Industry in Shenzhen Special Economic Zone" have been released to promote the industrial application of synthetic biology.

On September 1st, the Standing Committee of the Seventh People's Congress of Shenzhen Municipality issued an announcement that the "Regulations on Promoting the Innovation and Development of Synthetic Biology Industry in Shenzhen Special Economic Zone" was approved at the 40th meeting of the Standing Committee of the Seventh People's Congress of Shenzhen Municipality, and is now being published and will be implemented starting from October 1st, 2025. The "Regulations" mention that the municipal government should include the synthetic biology industry in the national economic and social development plan and formulate special plans, establish and improve coordination mechanisms to promote the development of the synthetic biology industry, deepen cooperation with relevant state and provincial departments, and coordinate major issues in the development of the synthetic biology industry. The district government should establish a coordination mechanism for the development of the synthetic biology industry based on the actual situation of the jurisdiction and coordinate the development of the synthetic biology industry in the jurisdiction.
