Wang Yi meets with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.

On August 31, 2025, Wang Yi, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with the Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in Tianjin as scheduled. Retno Marsudi conveyed a letter from President Prabowo Subianto to Chairman Xi Jinping, stating that due to recent domestic developments, President Prabowo Subianto was unable to visit China as planned and had appointed her to represent him at the relevant activities. Indonesia highly values the development of friendly relations with China and wishes the activities great success. The Indonesian government has committed to fully guarantee the safety of Chinese individuals and institutions in Indonesia. Wang Yi stated that Indonesia is a friendly neighbor of China, and the two sides are not only comprehensive strategic partners but also a community with a shared future. China welcomes the Foreign Minister as the representative of President Prabowo Subianto to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Tianjin Summit and the 80th anniversary commemoration of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, understands and respects the adjustments made by the Indonesian government for domestic reasons, and hopes that Indonesia will effectively ensure the safety and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese individuals and institutions in Indonesia.
