Trump said the court should listen to his opinion on the "reasons" for dismissing Federal Reserve Board member Powell.
The US Department of Justice stated in court documents that the court should respect President Trump's judgment on whether there is sufficient "just cause" to dismiss Federal Reserve Board member Lisa Cook. The document was submitted a few hours before a key hearing questioning Cook's dismissal began. The government argued in the Friday morning filing that Cook's request for a temporary restraining order to prevent her from being fired should be rejected, as her claim that Trump illegally dismissed her without the necessary "just cause" is "highly unlikely to prevail on the merits." The government stated, "The removal based on 'just cause' is a broad standard, and Congress has granted the President discretionary authority," even though the decision may be subject to judicial review - contrary to over a century of precedent - the review must highly respect the President's constitutional authority over key officials to avoid interfering with the President's powers."
