According to a report from Reuters on the 28th, the International Air Transport Association has formally proposed to the International Civil Aviation Organization to increase the retirement age of international pilots from the current 65 to 67 in order to address the rapid growth in global air travel demand and the serious shortage of pilots. IATA is a large international organization composed of around 350 airlines worldwide. In a working document submitted to ICAO by IATA, considering that 50% of current pilots will retire in the next 15 years, the association believes adjusting the retirement age of pilots is a "prudent but reasonable" step. This proposal is expected to be discussed at the ICAO assembly scheduled for September 23rd this year.
