The President of Colombia has requested to strengthen military forces in the border area with Venezuela to combat criminal gangs.

On August 28th local time, Colombian President Petro announced on social media that he has ordered the strengthening of military forces in the border area with Venezuela, in order to combat criminal gangs. Petro stated that he has ordered the Colombian army to increase the number of troops in the Catatumbo region. Currently, there are 25,000 soldiers deployed in the area. Petro said that defeating the influence of criminal gangs requires coordination between the two countries.
