The report stated that an automated email let some employees of ANZ Bank accidentally found out they had lost their jobs.
According to the Australian Financial Review, some employees of ANZ Bank in Australia and New Zealand inadvertently found out that they were going to be made redundant when they received an automated email requesting them to return company computers. The email was sent out earlier this week, and the bank subsequently held a teleconference with about 300 senior employees. ANZ Bank's Retail Department Acting Director Bruce Rush apologized for the mistake. The report stated that the management of ANZ Bank had originally intended to explain the redundancy plan to employees first, but employees unexpectedly found out about it through an automatically generated email.
