Germany's largest military industry company, Rheinmetall, held a production ceremony for its new munitions factory in the small town of Wunstorf in Lower Saxony, Germany, on the 27th. German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Klinbaier, Defense Minister Pistoleus, and NATO Secretary General Rtte attended the ceremony. Rheinmetall revealed that the factory will produce 25,000 155mm caliber artillery shells this year, increasing to 140,000 next year. It is expected that from 2027, the annual production capacity of the factory will reach 350,000 shells, making it the largest ammunition production base in Europe. In addition to conventional shells, Rheinmetall also plans to produce rocket shells at the factory. These shells are equipped with a small propulsion system and have a range of up to 100 kilometers, while the range of conventional 155mm caliber shells is typically between 30 and 40 kilometers. Rheinmetall sees the factory as an important cornerstone for "consolidating Germany's defense capabilities and Europe's future military strength", and will supply shells to the German Federal Defense Forces, NATO countries, and Ukraine from here.
