On the morning of August 27, the Taiwan Affairs Office held a routine press conference. Reporter: On August 23, Taiwan had the second round of voting on the "big recall" by the public opinion representatives. Internal public opinion believes that the "big recall" has failed, the US tariff negotiations have failed, and the situation in the Taiwan Strait has become tense, leading to a significant decline in satisfaction with Lai Ching-te's governance, and there may be some improvement in cross-strait relations in the future. I would like to ask the spokesperson for comment on this. Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhu Fenglian: The results of the "big recall" fully demonstrate that any "Taiwan independence" political manipulation, including "resisting China and seeking independence," is not popular and is destined to fail. The root cause of the tense and volatile cross-strait relations is that the Democratic Progressive Party authorities refuse to acknowledge the "1992 Consensus" and conspire with external forces to provoke "independence." Only by adhering to the "1992 Consensus," acknowledging that both sides of the strait belong to one China, can both sides engage in dialogue and negotiation, and improve and develop cross-strait relations.
