Alphabet (GOOGL.US) shuts down its life sciences department Verily to allocate more resources to the AI field.

According to Zhitong Finance APP, Alphabet's life sciences division Verily laid off employees on Monday and terminated its entire devices project. CEO Stephen Gillett reportedly announced in a staff memo the "difficult decision" to terminate the project.
