Zhao Leji chaired the 48th meeting of the 14th Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and decided that the 17th meeting of the 14th Standing Committee of the National People's Congress will be held in Beijing from September 8th to 12th.

The 48th meeting of the 14th National People's Congress Standing Committee was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on the morning of the 26th. Chairman Zhao Leji presided over the meeting. The meeting decided that the 17th meeting of the 14th National People's Congress Standing Committee will be held in Beijing from September 8th to 12th. The Chairman's meeting suggested that the 17th meeting of the 14th National People's Congress Standing Committee will review the draft Atomic Energy Law, Draft Law on Emergency Response to Public Health Emergencies, Draft National Park Law, Draft Arbitration Law Amendment, Draft Law on Rule of Law Publicity and Education, Draft Amendment to Food Safety Law, Draft Chemical Safety Law, Draft Compilation of General Principles of Ecological Environment Code, Draft Compilation of Ecological Protection of Ecological Environment Code, Draft Compilation of Green Low Carbon Development of Ecological Environment Code, Draft National Development Planning Law, Amendment to Prison Law; review the proposal of the Chairman's meeting of the National People's Congress Standing Committee to review the draft amendment to the Network Security Law; review the proposal of the National People's Congress Financial and Economic Committee to review the draft amendment to the Enterprise Bankruptcy Law; review the proposal of the National People's Congress Education, Science, Culture and Health Committee to review the draft amendment to the National General Language and Writing Law; review the proposal of the State Council to review the draft amendment to the Environmental Protection Tax Law; review the proposal of the State Council to approve the Treaty between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Serbia on Judicial Assistance in Civil and Commercial Matters, and to review the proposal to approve the Extradition Treaty between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Serbia. The agenda suggested by the Chairman's meeting for the 17th meeting of the Standing Committee also includes: reviewing the report of the State Council on the implementation of the national economic and social development plan and the budget execution situation this year, the report on government debt management in 2024, the report on promoting deep integration of culture and tourism development, the report on measures to address climate change and achieve carbon neutrality, the report on the pilot reform of water resource taxes; reviewing the report of the National People's Congress Standing Committee's law enforcement inspection team on the implementation of the Trade Union Law, listening to the report of the office of the National People's Congress Standing Committee on the research work on important issues in the formulation of the Outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan, reviewing the written report on Chairman Zhao Leji's visit to Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, Switzerland and attendance at the 6th World Speakers' Conference, reviewing the report of the National People's Congress Standing Committee's Credentials Committee on the qualifications of individual representatives, reviewing relevant appointment and removal cases, and more. The Chairman's meeting also discussed the analysis report on the economic operation this year by the National People's Congress Financial and Economic Committee, and reviewed the report on the handling of mass petitions by the National People's Congress Office since February 2025.
