Losing power, a malfunctioning cruise ship finally reached the port of Naples, Italy.
The Mediterranean cruise company's "Europa" cruise ship experienced a malfunction near Ponza Island in Italy on the 25th, losing power, and later arrived at the port of Naples that evening relying on partially restored propulsion systems. According to the Italian news agency Ansa, there were a total of 8585 people on board, including nearly 6500 passengers and over 2000 crew members. The ship was originally scheduled to sail from Genoa to Naples on the 25th, but reported electrical engine failure around 7:25 a.m. that morning. At that time, the ship was about 8 nautical miles southwest of Ponza Island. Ponza Island is located in the proximity of Naples. Reuters quoted a spokesperson for the cruise company as saying, "The 'Europa' cruise ship is heading towards the scheduled port of Naples relying on partially restored propulsion systems, and had experienced technical problems before."
