The first mandatory national standard in the field of hazardous substance management for electrical and electronic products in our country, titled "Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products", has been approved and will be officially implemented on August 1, 2027. The standard was proposed and managed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and jointly developed by more than 60 units including the China Electronics Standardization Institute, electrical and electronic industry manufacturing enterprises, certification and testing institutions, industry associations, and research institutes. The standard clearly controls 10 toxic and harmful chemical substances that may be contained in electrical and electronic products, including four heavy metal elements such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, and six persistent organic pollutants such as polybrominated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, and four phthalate substances. It sets out mandatory requirements for the content of each hazardous substance. The implementation of the standard will promote electrical and electronic product manufacturing enterprises to strengthen the reduction and substitution of hazardous substances, build and upgrade green supply chains for products, continuously enhance the level of hazardous substance management, and assist in protecting consumer health and controlling environmental risks. Next, relevant departments such as the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will actively promote the dissemination and implementation of mandatory national standards, orderly expand the types of electrical and electronic products controlled by China RoHS and the types of hazardous substances, and further improve the China RoHS management mechanism.
