Two senior Democratic members of the US House of Representatives are investigating whether Paramount and Skydance Media succumbed to President Trump's "illegal demands" in order to secure approval for their $80 billion merger. In a letter, the lawmakers wrote, "This settlement agreement raises serious concerns that Paramount made an illegal payment to Trump paying $16 million to the President in exchange for Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval of the merger." They wrote, "Paramount and Skydance Media's compliance with President Trump's baseless claims to complete the merger demonstrates their extreme disregard for any factors that may hinder profitability."
