According to the Finance and Economics APP, the Census and Statistics Department (CSD) of the Hong Kong government announced the Consumer Price Index for July 2025 today (August 21). According to the Composite Consumer Price Index, the overall consumer prices in July 2025 rose by 1.0% compared to the same period in 2025, which is lower than the corresponding increase in June 2025 (1.4%). The lower increase in July 2025 is mainly due to the fact that the ceiling for the difference allowances in June 2025 was lower than the same period last year, and there was no such reduction in June of last year and this year. Excluding the impact of all government one-off relief measures, the year-on-year increase in the Composite Consumer Price Index in July 2025 (i.e. the basic inflation rate) is 1.0%, the same as the corresponding increase in June 2025.
