Walmart recalls large quantities of frozen shrimp sold in multiple states in the US
The US Food and Drug Administration announced on its website on the 19th that it has asked the retail giant Walmart to remove three batches of its own brand frozen shrimp due to the risk of radioactive contamination. The FDA stated that radioactive isotope cesium-137 was detected in containers at four ports in the US, and after investigation, this radioactive contaminant was found in a sample of breaded shrimp from a company in Indonesia. Some of the raw materials for Walmart's own brand shrimp come from this company. The announcement stated that the level of cesium-137 detected in the frozen breaded shrimp was 68 becquerels per kilogram, well below the FDA's intervention standard of 1200 becquerels per kilogram. However, over time, low-level radiation can still pose health risks to consumers.
