On August 20th local time, according to Reuters citing sources, the United States has ordered an amphibious combat team to be sent to the southern Caribbean Sea to support President Trump's crackdown on drug trafficking groups in Latin America. The sources said that three ships, the "San Antonio", "Sulphur Island" and "Lauderdale" will carry about 4,500 US soldiers and could arrive near the coast of Venezuela as early as the 24th. Although the specific mission has not been disclosed, the US side emphasizes that the deployment is aimed at regional groups designated as "transnational drug terrorist organizations". The Trump administration has already listed the Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel and the Venezuelan "Aragua Train Gang" as global terrorist organizations in February of this year, and views combatting drug trafficking groups as an important part of its immigration control and southern border security strategy.
