President of the American Soybean Association Caleb Raglan wrote to President Trump on the 19th, stating that American soybean growers are facing "tremendous" financial pressure. As harvest season approaches rapidly, the longer the US delays reaching an agreement on soybean exports with China, the more severe the impact on American soybean farmers. Raglan wrote in the letter, "Soybean prices continue to decline, while our production inputs and equipment costs have risen significantly. American soybean farmers cannot withstand a prolonged trade dispute with our largest customer." He urged Trump to prioritize the soybean issue in US-China trade negotiations. A report released by the American Soybean Association shows that in the seven years before 2018, an average of 28% of soybeans produced in the US were exported to China, accounting for 60% of total US soybean exports during the same period. In the 2023-2024 marketing year, the US exported nearly 25 million tons of soybeans to China, far exceeding the 4.9 million tons exported to the second largest market, the EU.
