Experts say that if Hassett is elected as the chairman of the Federal Reserve, the independence of the central bank may be at risk.
Although recognizing Hassett has the qualifications for the position, Allen Sinai of Decision Economics expressed concerns about his independence at the Federal Reserve after taking office. Sinai pointed out, "If low interest rate policies are implemented for political purposes - which is a strong advocate and direction of the Trump administration - it will be seen by the market as the administration interfering with the central bank, thus posing macro risks."
