The government of Kazakhstan held a working meeting on the 19th to discuss increasing efforts to develop railway transportation and its modernization process. According to Kazinform news agency, at the government meeting on that day, Kazakh Prime Minister Bektezhanov emphasized the need for systematic development of the railway industry, accelerating the modernization process and digital transformation, actively using supercomputing centers and artificial intelligence technology, integrating information systems such as automation management and digital scheduling, improving railway safety and operational maintenance, and enhancing transit transportation capacity mainly from east to west. Kazakh Minister of Transport Nurzhan Shokanbayev said that Kazakhstan is located on the international trade route and is a key hub for cross-border transportation, with five international railway corridors passing through it. This year's transit transportation volume is expected to reach 33 million tons, and by the end of 2029, it is planned to increase to 67 million tons. Shokanbayev stated that the Kazakh government plans to build or modernize 5,000 kilometers of railway by 2029, repair 11,000 kilometers of railway, and purchase 456 new locomotives and over 7,000 new freight cars.
