Reuters survey: The Bank of England will only cut interest rates once this year, constrained by inflation and economic growth resilience.
A Reuters survey shows that most economists have not changed their outlook for the future in the past month. They believe that the Bank of England will cut interest rates by 25 basis points again this year, and then cut rates again early in 2026, as the economy shows resilience, which will lead to sustained inflation. Earlier this month, after a rare second round of voting by the Monetary Policy Committee, the Bank of England lowered rates by 25 basis points to 4.00, with a vote of 5 to 4. Bank President Bailey stated that easing policy should not be done "too quickly or too much." Out of the 62 economists surveyed from August 13th to 19th, 50 indicated that the Bank of England will cut interest rates by 25 basis points again this year, most likely at the November meeting, when the Bank of England will also provide the latest round of forecast data.
