After the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in the United States issued an emergency administrative injunction, environmental protection and tribal groups successfully further delayed the transfer of public land for a copper mine in Arizona. On August 18, the Court of Appeals issued a temporary order blocking President Trump's administration from transferring Oak Flat (a tribal sacred site) to the multinational mining companies Rio Tinto Group and BHP Billiton's subsidiary, Resolution Copper. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals stated in the temporary order: "We approve the temporary administrative injunction to maintain the status quo" while the emergency injunction relief motion is still under consideration. The jury "did not express opinions on the substance of the motion."
