The EU announces that a new round of sanctions against Russia will be introduced in September.

On August 19, local time, the European Council held a video conference to discuss the issue of the Washington meeting on Ukraine. Following the meeting, the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Karas, stated that EU leaders are committed to achieving lasting peace to protect Ukraine and Europe's vital security interests. Karas said that the EU will continue to take measures against Russia, and the next round of sanctions against Moscow is expected to be announced in September. Karas stated that these issues have been listed as top priorities on the agenda for next week's EU Foreign and Defense Ministers' discussions.
