Equipment malfunction, Unit 2 of Japan's Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant will temporarily shut down.
The Tohoku Electric Power Company announced on the 19th that Unit 2 of the Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant in Miyagi Prefecture will temporarily shut down starting around August 21st due to a malfunction in some equipment that measures hydrogen gas concentration. According to the Tohoku Electric Power Company, during the period from May to June this year, two out of the four hydrogen gas concentration measurement devices installed inside the reactor containment vessel displayed abnormally high values. However, the other two devices showed normal readings, and there were no abnormalities in pressure, temperature, and other indicators of the reactor and containment vessel. The Tohoku Electric Power Company originally planned to replace this batch of equipment during the scheduled inspection in January next year, but decided to do so earlier to enhance safety. It is expected to take about 10 days from shutdown to restart.
