National Center for Disease Control and Prevention expert team sent to Foshan: New cases of Kyasanur Forest Disease continue to decrease, no sequelae have been found.
A team of experts from the National Health Commission went to Foshan and accepted an interview with Xinhua News Agency to answer hot questions of public concern. Ren Dongsheng, a researcher at the Institute of Infectious Diseases of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, stated that the number of daily cases of Chikungunya fever in Foshan has steadily decreased from over 600 cases at its peak to less than 100 cases per day, indicating that the previous prevention and control measures have been further consolidated. He said that currently, the new cases in Foshan are in a sporadic state. The next step will be to take more targeted prevention and control measures to further control the epidemic. Chen Zhihai, director of the Infectious Diseases Center at Beijing Ditan Hospital, introduced that Chikungunya fever mainly has three major symptoms: fever, rash, and joint pain, which may have varying durations. He emphasized that the most important symptom to pay attention to is joint pain, especially in smaller joints, with ankle pain being the most common and having the greatest impact on patients. Chen Zhihai stated that some patients find it difficult to stand up in the morning and have to sit back down because their ankles cannot support them. Some patients may also experience lower back pain, hip pain, knee pain, etc. Most patients recover within 1 to 3 weeks. Currently, Foshan has treated thousands of confirmed cases of Chikungunya fever, and no patients have been found to have any sequelae.
