Washington National Guard personnel will carry firearms.
On August 16th local time, the NBC reported citing two American officials that some National Guard personnel deployed to the capital Washington D.C. will start carrying firearms while carrying out their tasks in the city. On the same day, a spokesman for the Joint Task Force stated in a declaration that National Guard personnel "may carry weapons according to their tasks and training." According to CBS, citing a White House official, the National Guard personnel deployed in Washington D.C. are currently not conducting arrest operations. On June 11th, President Trump announced that he would place the D.C. police department under federal control and send 800 National Guard personnel to Washington D.C. to assist in restoring law and order and public safety. Starting from June 13th, National Guard personnel began round-the-clock operations in Washington D.C., and it is expected that the number of National Guard personnel in the area will increase.
