The new flexible robot developed by the research team of Harbin Engineering University in our country has successfully completed multiple "check-ins" at a depth of 4000 meters in the deep sea after 3 years of research. The robot is approximately 32cm long, weighs only 670g, and uses liquid materials and flexible structures to drive its units in order to balance the deep sea pressure. The research team installed flexible electrodes on both sides of a plastic bag filled with liquid, and alternately applied electricity to achieve plastic shrinkage and deformation driving. Currently, the team has successfully completed deep sea pressure tests at a depth of 10,000 meters, and will continue to conduct full-depth field tests in the future. The research results have been published in the international authoritative journal "Science Robotics".
