The Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment jointly released a batch of typical cases on August 15 related to the connection between compensation for ecological and environmental damage and public interest litigation by procuratorates. This is aimed at guiding procuratorates at all levels and environmental departments to further regulate and strengthen the coordination between compensation for ecological and environmental damage and public interest litigation. According to reports, from January 2024 to July 2025, procuratorates nationwide have handled a total of 86,000 public interest litigations related to ecological and resource protection, including 72,000 administrative public interest litigations and 14,000 civil public interest litigations. A total of over 7,500 public interest litigations have been initiated, accounting for approximately 57.6% of all public interest litigation cases in the field. From January 2018 to July 2025, local environmental departments and other relevant departments have handled approximately 56,900 cases of compensation for ecological and environmental damage.
