Evergrande's former CEO Xia Haijun was exposed to be hiding in California, USA instead of Canada.
Recently, a judgment issued by the Hong Kong High Court revealed that Xia Haijun, the former CEO of Evergrande, refused to disclose his overseas assets. It was found that his wife holds assets worth $24 million in the United States. The liquidators of Evergrande believe Xia Haijun is the actual controller of these assets.
Recently, there have been new developments regarding Xia Haijun. The judgment issued by Justice Hon Coleman of the Hong Kong High Court on August 1, 2025, shows that the second defendant, Xia Haijun, showed extreme reluctance to disclose his assets or separate himself from them. According to Evergrande's investigation, his wife, Mrs. He, owns three properties and four cars in California, USA, as well as trust assets, totaling $24 million.
Evergrande believes that Xia Haijun is the actual controller of these assets. The court also accepted this view, noting that Mrs. He is only an agent of Xia Haijun's assets. There is evidence that Xia Haijun often resides in California, where he regularly participates in local sports clubs, buys daily necessities, and lives with his 12-year-old son who attends a private school in California. Xia Haijun and his wife share the address "62 Como," contrary to the Canadian address previously provided.
